Reviews:

Two Worlds Collide at Petroni

And the Rosso di Sonoma is the best of both worlds. With Italian roots and Sonoman craft, Petroni melds the styles of both and delivers a wine that is the middle-ground between Old World and New.

Integrated tobacco and fig on the nose. The palate is distinguished, medium-full bodied with graphite, star anise, black cherry, plum skin and tobacco leaf. The finish is medium length with cassis. Did we mention these grapes were grown organically? Drink now. 91 Points - JZ June '18

Why We're Drinking It:

$0 Shipping Selection (6+/btls)

This wine pays tribute to the late great Lorenzo Petroni. A top quality Sangiovese-heavy blend from two standout Sonoma Valley vineyards made by the man who specialized in wine and cuisine in both Italy and America. It's the very definition of crowd-pleaser and food friendly vino.

  • Estate grown grapes from the top of the Mayacamas Mountains in the Sonoma Valley AVA, where the rich volcanic soils of the Cavedale Road Vineyard lend themselves perfectly to Sangiovese and Cabernet, while the Trinity Ranch property higher up the mountain produces robust and mineral-driven Syrah.
  • Designed for immediate drinking, the velvety tannins and lush, vanilla-y fruit notes are still showing beautifully today, which is a testament to the skill of winemaker Petroni.
  • Petroni--chef, restaurateur (North Beach Restaurant in SF), winemaker--was a living legend, and approaching the two year anniversary of his death, we’re honoring his legacy by bringing you this bottle, our favorite of his offerings.
Tasting Notes:

This bold Sonoma blend has fruity flavors such as blackberry and dried cherry. The body and tanins of this wine are very balanced which makes for a smooth finish.

The Story to Know:

From the winery:

In 1991, renowned San Francisco restaurateur Lorenzo Petroni and his wife Maria Elena, purchased 37 acres of pristine virgin Sonoma mountain forest perched on the western Mayacamas Mountain range at an 800 feet elevation.
Lorenzo Petroni's wine making dream was to be the first California vintner to grow Gold Medal winning Brunello di Montalcino cloned Sangiovese Grosso grapes that would equal and surpass Italy's most highly prized red wine!

Lorenzo Petroni's passion to produce the highest quality California estate wines and extra virgin olive oil came from his 35-years culinary expertise in serving authentic Tuscan cuisine in San Francisco's famous North Beach Restaurant.

Perfect Pairings:

Enjoy this wine on its own or uncork this next to your favorite pizza dish or a rich plate of carbonara pasta.
