Wine Enthusiast: “This wine, combined with 10% Petite Sirah, impresses in grip and softness, offering big, rich waves of raspberry, cinnamon and allspice, before unveiling a leathery finish. An all-around likable wine, it's ready to enjoy now.” 90 points

Wine Spectator: “Aromas of wild berry and toasty oak lead to jammy flavors of black cherry, charred herb and spice. The tannins sneak up on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 2,495 cases made.”

Why We're Drinking It:

The life of the party, this 2012 Four Vines ‘The Sophisticate’ exudes charm. Strutting its stuff in each glass, this stylish and sumptuous Zin swept us off our feet. And we’re not alone. Wine Enthusiast graced this charmer with 90 points.

“This wine, combined with 10% Petite Sirah, impresses in grip and softness, offering big, rich waves of raspberry, cinnamon and allspice, before unveiling a leathery finish. An all-around likable wine, it's ready to enjoy now.”

Classy yet vivacious, each glass of the 2012 Four Vines ‘The Sophisticate’ proves to be more gregarious than the last. Especially with smoky grilled meats and friends to impress.

Why we love it:

With a 10% splash of Petite Sirah, the brooding fruit of The Sophisticate gets a boost of black fruit and structure. Zinfandel and Petite Sirah are lovely blending partners, each building just enough on the other, but never over the top. Like good friends at a lively party, they play off of each other to the enjoyment of all around.

The dark garnet glass lifts a bouquet of blackberries, smoked meats, minerality, and beguiling oak notes. After 14 months in small French and American oak barrels, the beauty of boysenberry and supple tannins shine in their frame of cinnamon and butterscotch.

Tasting Notes:

The Sophisticate lives up to its nickname offering a rich berry profile, refined tannins and elegant balance. In this vintage we’ve blended in a bit of Petite Sirah to add structure and dark fruit notes then the wine is aged in small oak casks for over a year. Dark garnet in color, The Sophisticate is ripe and jammy with aromas of smoky blackberry and licorice. On the palate, flavors of boysenberry, black cherry and black pepper lead into a lush and supple finish.

The Story to Know:

From the Winery

At Four Vines we’re wine-loving rebels who seized an opportunity to craft wines that are distinctly unstuffy, characteristically joyous and decidedly American. At the time of our first vintage the wine world was a bonefide Who’s Who of Blah: Tannic Cab, Flabby Merlot, Oaky Chard, Wash, Rinse, Repeat… But while everyone else got stuck in the spin cycle, Four Vines got busy.

Perfect Pairings:

Classy sit-down dinners to vibrant patio barbecue parties, this wine pairs beautifully with any gathering that features smoky flavors and rich plates.

Four Vines The Sophisticate is a wonderful match with tomato-based dishes like lasagna and spaghetti Bolognese along with brisket, Italian sausage and leg of lamb.
