Sangiacomo Strikes Again with Under-the-Radar Production

I first discovered Chloe Creek last year, when we ran their 2013 Sangiacomo Pinot Noir. It was a massive hit, so much so that I was sure to hop on the next vintage. This one is showing exactly as I hoped, with all of the qualities a Sonoma Coast Pinot should be showing.

Bright strawberry and white flowers on the nose. The palate is light with a beautiful balance of acidity and texture. Cranberry, red currant, fresh morning dew and an essence of rosemary. The finish is long with good fruits throughout. Drinking beautifully now, and can age another 2-3 years. 94 Points - JZ Aug '18

Why We're Drinking It:

The 2014 Chloe Creek Pinot Noir is stacked right up there with some of the most prestigious and coveted names in the Sonoma region, from MacPhail to Sojourn to La Follette, and on. Crafted from the coveted fruit of the region, it's the definition of a micro-gem, and when it does hit the market (which is rare, as it’s typically shared with a fortunate few friends of the winery), it's a treat on the palate, and on the wallet.

  • Proprietors Kimberly and Bill Comiskey keep the whole Chloe Creek project under the radar, and they’re members of that lucky small universe that sources coveted fruit from the renowned Sangiacamo Vineyard. They produce a private lot for their inner circle of friends.
  • You couldn’t pick a better SoCo vineyard: the celebrated property is a third generation family-run outfit situated on Roberts Road at the western base of Sonoma Mountain.  They customize their farming techniques to their clients.  The primary clone 777 block was planted in 1999 on 101-14 rootstock in deeper loam soils. Climate is key to this vineyard's ability to produce noteworthy Pinot noir. Cool ocean breezes and Petaluma Gap fog keep the heat in check and allow for long hang time while retaining natural acidity.
  • Winemaker Dan Fitzgerald has spent harvests in both hemispheres, from Europe down to Australia and back up to Napa, and brings his specialized approach to this fantastic Pinot Noir.
  • On top of it all, the 2014 vintage saw a lower yield with an accompanying spike in quality, given the condensed harvest, with Pinot Noir showing exceptionally: concentrated, mature, with gorgeously structured tannins.
Tasting Notes:

Strawberry, raspberry, and black cherry flavors will please your palate, as well as subtle cedar and spice notes.

The Story to Know:

From the winery:

At Chloe Creek Vineyards, our mission is to create distinctive, limited-production Pinot Noirs that showcase the true expression and complexity of the vineyard. We appreciate great food and wine and the lifestyle that comes with growing and making Pinots of exceptional quality.

Because world-class wine begins in world-class vineyards, our grapes are harvested only from the best Sonoma County Appellation vineyards. Each wine is produced in small lots and reflects the unique character of the particular vineyard. Each Chloe Creek Pinot is coaxed along with minimal intervention and crafted to produce wines of distinction and balance.

Perfect Pairings:

Pair this with a delicious grilled salmon or chicken marinated in teriyaki sauce.
