Reviews:

The 2012 Le Desir (64% Cabernet Franc, 24% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Malbec) reminds me of a young vintage of Ausone, such as 2005. The wine has amazing minerality and an explosive blueberry nose intermixed with blackberries, new saddle leather, charcoal and camphor. It is full-bodied, with espresso notes emerging on the palate. There are 1,900 cases of this super-endowed, prodigious wine that should drink well for 35-40 years. How fun it would be for mega-millionaires to put this in a blind tasting of a great vintage of Ausone in 10, 20 or 30 years from now. - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 100 Points!

I suppose the arguments against giving perfect scores far outnumber those for giving them, but after 37 years of tasting just about everything of quality that’s been produced, I believe I’m in a position to recognize truly world-class efforts that are as complete and compelling as good wine can be. And if that’s the case, then why hold back? I realize that it creates possibly unreal expectations among readers, and there is the argument that nothing really is perfect. But if a wine is as good as you think it can be made, then I have no reservations about offering accolades to those rare wines. When one considers the winemaking effort that goes into producing these cuvées of Vérité, from Bordelais Pierre Seillan, the fastidious attention to detail and the use of only the crème de la crème of fruit from some of the finest vineyards in the Jackson family empire, the results are not that surprising. The 2013s are the pinnacle of what Vérité has produced, and probably all wines that will be better at age 25 or 35 than they are showing today, but they are simply the essence of a vineyard site, a vine and a philosophy of no compromise. All of these wines, basically, are aged in 100% new French oak, given 3-4 day cold pre-fermentation, cold macerations, treated like spoiled children during élevage, and bottled with no fining or filtration. The entire philosophy is that La Muse is the Right Bank Pomerol look-alike from Vérité, La Joie the Medoc-like clone, and Le Desir a St.-Emilion in the style of Ausone.

Why We're Drinking It:

Jackson Family's "Verite" label has sky rocketed to the moon over the last five years with Bordeaux inspired blends that beckon the attention of the "collector world". Recent releases make a strong argument that high-scoring Cabernet blends can achieve perfect 100-point ratings and be on the stage with Napa Valley Cult-Icons.

Back in the Fall 2013, Robert Parker tasted Verite's 3 offerings out of barrel and gave the wines tremendous praise. A few weeks ago, He came out with his re-assessments which were even better. He notched up his scores to give both "La Joie" and "Le Desir" a perfect 100-point rating and the "La Muse" received a solid 97-point rating.

These wines were extremely allocated back in September and we can't secure any more. Need some trophy wines that can cellar for 3 decades, then time to pony up on Parker Perfection!

Verite has been on a rocket ship trajectory over the last decade, but now they stand in the same company as Abreu, Colgin, Harlan, Scarecrow, Schrader and Screaming Eagle. Our allocation is bottles here and not cases, so email reply to secure your request.

Parker on Verite 2012:

"These are legendary wines of great extract, richness and potential of longevity and complexity. No compromises are made and the credit goes certainly to the Jackson family for supporting the efforts of winemaker Pierre Seillan."

Tasting Notes:

Le Désir—predominantly Cabernet Franc supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot — shows layers of concentrated fruit, exotic spice, opulent aromatics and a plush suede texture.

The Story to Know:

French for 'truth', Vérité reflects our commitment to crafting the most authentic expression of the vineyard.

Simply put, but profound in its intent, we are dedicated to producing red wines of style and substance using traditional methods and the finest fruit from mountain vineyards throughout Sonoma County.

The Vérité Estate is located in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountain range at the southern tip of Sonoma County's Alexander Valley. Our unique location is just north of the confluence of the Chalk Hill and Knights Valley appellations, an area know for superior soil, climate, and potential to express a strong sense of terroir.

Perfect Pairings:

A royal needs a high class cut of steak. Bring on the double-cut porterhouse steak!
