Reviews:

RRV Sauv Blanc, Made by Randall Watkins? That's a Yes.
Randall all has proven time and again to be a stellar winemaker. We first sold his Cabernet Sauvignon, then moved on to his Cabernet Franc. Now we're coming full circle in the family with his light and luscious Sauvignon Blanc. It's going to be a hot end of the season, this crisp white is just what the doctor ordered.

Grassy citrus nose. White guava, lemond rind, pineaplle and fuji apple on a light palate. With a pedigree like this, you won't want to miss it. 92 Points - JZ Aug '18

Why We're Drinking It:

This is a treat. Pure RRV SB from an acclaimed Winemaker of the Year (and one of our oldest friends in the wine biz), it's fair to say when we got our hands on this wine, we all lit up!  Crafted from Hopkins River Ranch, the result is a brilliant late-summer jewel that shines; perfect for those whom appreciate bright, crisp, perfectly on-point wines in their glass.

  • Sauvignon Blanc's popularity isn't suprising given its versatility: it’s a wine that enhances and balances a broad range of food flavors and textures, complementing everything from triple-cream cheeses to oysters. There's a lot of Sauvignon Blanc on the market, but not many from the Russian River Valley and most aren't made from some of the oldest plantings in California, which Watkins' Hopkins River Ranch old vine Sauvignon Blancs can boast.
  • Impressively small production, Juicy, and delicious: flavors of tropical passionfruit and honeydew melon, vibrant acidity and a finish that's clean and crisp for this 100%, very dry Sauvignon Blanc.
  • Cutting his teeth on such a wide range of terroirs, Randall Watkins knows how to turn out superior Sauvignon Blanc. He grew up on his family vineyard, where he learned of winemaking at a very early age. Randall went on to work for some of California’s best-known wineries, like Buena Vista Winery and Hartford Family Winery in Sonoma County, Carmen Vineyards in Chile, and as assistant winemaker at S. Anderson Vineyards in Napa and more recently at an Operative-favorite winery, Bugay Vineyards in Napa.
  • With a drinking window now through 2019, this wine is a great way to kickoff Fall 2018 or to enjoy at its peak ageing next Summer, if you can hold onto it for that long.
Tasting Notes:

From the winery:

The wine displays exemplary tension and freshness on the entry, then it just explodes in the mouth with joyous flavors of tropical passionfruit and honeydew melon, and the mouthwatering finish is crisp and clean.

The Story to Know:

From the winery:

We are a small family-owned winery in Sonoma County specializing in limited production wines from hillside vineyards. All of our wines are rich and intensely flavored, reflecting both their origin in the vineyard, and the balance and elegance of small lot winemaking.

“All of my winemaking efforts go towardextracting and expressing the quality and unique flavor of the vineyard.”

  - Randall Watkins, Winemaker

Perfect Pairings:

From the winery:

We particularly enjoy it with pan-seared scallops in a dill-cream sauce, pesto pasta, or grilled chicken.
