Reviews:

This is a stunning bottle of single vineyard Syrah from Sonoma Mountain, the Rocky Hill vineyard fruit is dark and concentrated, perfect for Syrah.  I was blown away by the quality here, and the wine is right in its prime drinking window.  A wonderful berry medley wafts from the glass, mingling with notes of cedar, vanilla and pipe tobacco.  The palate is well structured, showing a bright acidity and dry tannin behind blueberry, blackberry, baking spice and toasted oak.  Great for grilled or roasted meats, and will be enjoyed by fans of big reds.  Enjoy now through 2018. - DZ July, 2016

Why We're Drinking It:

It’s time to be reminded of why all us Rhone enthusiasts love Syrah! This vintage truly shines. Its vibrant fruit characteristics stand center stage while a full flavor captures a traditional Northern Rhone Valley taste that is polished to perfection with a genuine French influence from Aubin Cellars’ proprietor Jerome Aubin.

It’s easy to see what puts the verve in the Verve label. Jerome is a master of showcasing his passion and this distinctive vintage is worthy of its reputation. Beauty. Creativity. Enthusiasm. They all fit nicely together as they worked to craft a wine that expresses unique qualities any traditional Syrah fan will fall even more and more in love with, with every sip!

This ultralow production wine comes from the small, somewhat obscure Sonoma Mountain appellation. It aims high, with the Northern Rhône the model.

Reasons why we love it:

The Aubin winemaking team knows how to source a grape. From the small somewhat mysterious Sonoma Mountain Appellation comes this premium Syrah that ripens on some very impressive vines. Some folks may say Syrah has an advantage as one of the world's most successful grape varieties, but Sonoma Mountain Syrah is in a class all of its own. It displays vibrant colors and intensely dark fruit flavors, desirables from the daytime’s relentless California sun that sits opposite cool mountain air nights.

Aubin Cellars is a part of California’s East Bay winery renaissance. An area up until prohibition had made approximately 85% of California’s total wine production. Today, this Urban Wine Country includes Aubin Cellars’ home of Oakland where Jerome and his wines bask in a diverse, European culture alongside a steady stream of international visitors. A place where this genuine French wine thrives and begs for attention.

We encourage our Members not to miss this offer! It’s such a sensible wine boasting of robust flavor from the land Jack London once described as where “the air is wine...I have everything to make me glad I am alive.”

Tasting Notes:

Deep spicy aromas of freshly ground cloves, perfectly ripened blackberry and boysenberry weave together with hints of cola and leather, inviting one to sip. The soft creamy entry showcases a complex wine with layers of flavors that ends in a spice-ladened finish that lingers on the palate. Juicy dark-skinned berries and plum blend with notes of cola, espresso, cinnamon, nutmeg and a slight mineral essence to create an irresistible taste sensation.

The Story to Know:

Aubin Cellars was founded by Jérôme Aubin in 2001 with the intent to craft limited quantities of single-varietal wines from the Pacific Northern cooler climate vineyards in Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma Mountain, Central Coast, Willamette Valley, and Columbia Valley.

Jérôme Aubin seeks also the expertise and craftsmanship of various winemakers,, each expressing their respective style in processing and maturing these single-varietal grapes: Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, French Colombard, and Gewurztraminer.

Aubin Cellar's vision is to make wine that reflects each vineyard's pedigree: soil, clonal selection, and appellation. In blending old world methods and modern concepts of wine production, Aubin Cellars attempts to craft wines that show balance, fruit purity, and Verve.

Perfect Pairings:

Enjoy solo, or with prime rib, cassoulet or a rosemary and garlic encrusted rack of lamb
